Since 2002, I have been working on all kinds of Free Software related projects, preferrably remote. Over the past years I have collaborated with various teams of international Open Source projects. My Open Source activities partially originate from customer requests, but I also contribute a lot to Open Source projects as a volunteer. On an individual basis, I am also available for on-site consulting (ideally for customers situated in Northern Germany, that is Schleswig-Holstein or Hamburg).
By profession, I originally am a biologist (Dipl.-Biol.). However, already as a student at university (CAU Kiel) I was offered the opportunity to gather a lot of experience in maintaining heterogeneous IT environments. At the same time I discovered a second passion of mine. I became deeply interested in different forms of body work. I received training in Shiatsu, Cranio Sacral Therapy, Osteopathy, as well as Aikido. Since 2013 our patchwork family has been living near the Schlei firth between Eckernförde and Schleswig, in Northern Germany. My central place of work is at the Technik- und Ökologiezentrum Eckernförde.
In Fall 2020, I have founded the Fre(i)e Software GmbH with the goal of lifting my Open Source consulting business activities to a larger scale.
Since ca. 2011, I have been actively contributing to the Debian Project. My entry point was joining the Debian Edu team and contribute to the development of Debian Edu / Skolelinux. Since then I have been offering Linux based IT services for schools (in cooperation with Logo EDV-Systeme GmbH in Kiel). From 2011 till 2014, I was the release and community manager of the X2Go Project (X2Go - Remote desktop software for Linux desktops).
In 2013, I became a Debian Developer (one of currently ~ 400-500 active Debian developers worldwide). As a global team - together with many other contributors - we cooperate internationally on regularly releasing a new version of the Debian GNU/Linux distribution every 2-3 years.
The most notable characteristic of Debian is this: the Debian community project brings forth the largest GNU/Linux distribution worldwide that is not governed by a single company. Debian is backed by corporations, though, but the project itself is organized and run by volunteers. For all that, Debian’s universal operating system is very often deployed in enterprise grade IT environments.
In Debian we come together as group of very diverse people. We are united by our passion for Free Software and provide our personal time and resources to the continuous development and improvement of Debian GNU/Linux, with a strong dedication and a deep commitment.
If you have any questions or are interested in my services, please don’t hesitate to reach out and get in touch with me.
