Ayatana Indicators

Starting in 2015, I forked Ubuntu Application Indicators as Ayatana Indicators.

Developers from various Linux desktops and desktop applications joined together for maintaining Ayatana Indicators and bringing them to all desktop environments, that want to use them. Some desktop environments (like the MATE desktop in Debian 9 and Ubuntu 18.04) use them by default, others use them optionally.

Other than with Ubuntu Indicators, we--release-wise--, strictly differentiate between upstream and Linux distro downstream in the release cycles of the various related components.
